Fantasy Football Talk: 08/25/19

Yesterday, I had my first one of my three family and friends draft.

Here’s what I ended up with:

QB: Lamar Jackson

RB: Chris Carson

RB: Dalvin Cook

WR: Deandre Hopkins

WR: Davante Adams

TE: George Kittle

FLEX: Tyler Lockett

D/ST: Chargers

K: Adam Vinatari

Bench: Aaron Jones, Calvin Ridley, David Montgomery, Tarik Cohen, Miles Sanders, Keke Coutee, Vance McDonald

NOTE: The league is an 8-Team PPR and the second pick was Odell Beckham Jr. by my uncle from Arizona.

After the draft, I made a few waiver moves:

  • I dropped my Chargers D/ST to pickup Kyler Murray as a backup QB (I will figure out my D/ST replacement later)
  • After finding out Luck had retired, I dropped the GOAT, Adam Vinatari, for the moment to pickup Kareem Hunt

BIG NEWS: Andrew Luck Retires from the NFL

The most surprising thing of the NFL Preseason occurred last night when Andrew Luck retired from the NFL. This means a lot for people who drafted him and the hopes for a title run from the Colts. I’d be surprised, with Jacoby Brissett, if the Colts made it passed the first round of the playoffs. They had so much hope this season.

From a fantasy prospective, people were wary drafting him as of late, but he was still the sixth QB drafted based on Fantasy Pros ADP Rankings. For those people who drafted him, it must suck. Here’s my Top 3 Replacements:

Jacoby Brissett

Obviously, without Luck playing, the weapons around Jacoby will still be elite. TY Hilton is a Top 11 WR in the league. Devin Funchess was a #1 WR on the last year Panthers team. I expect him to have a boost in stats just because he won’t be the #1 anymore. The Colts also have a very good TE duo, Ebron and Doyle, along with a Top 5 RB duo of Hines and Mack. I won’t expect a lot out of him, but he does have a high ceiling to me.

Lamar Jackson

I love the ceiling on Lamar. He only started 7 of the 16 games and broke the record for rushing attempts by a QB. If he can keep the pace he was at last year, he would crush Mike Vick’s best rushing season by 550 yards. Sure, I wouldn’t expect it nor would I want it because a QB shouldn’t be hit the much, but again the ceiling is high for him.

Ryan Fitzpatrick

Ryan Fitzpatrick is the most questionable on the list. I could see him starting all 16 games. I could also see him becoming a backup to Rosen before Week 8. I’d just say, he’s a good player to start the season with and stream as your starter.

He wasn’t that high on my list of players. I was actually very low on him. It sucks to see a player like him get injured in one of his prime years. Last year, he made his first Pro Bowl last year and should have done good this year too. I think Duke Johnson will gain some more snaps this season.
